Four-time president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Kazi M Salahuddin announced on Saturday that he was not going to compete for the federation's president post for the fifth time.

He faced the media at the BFF House in Motijheel on the day. There he said, "I was with you for four terms. I consider myself very lucky for the opportunity. I decided not to contest in the coming election which is scheduled to be held on 26 October. I came here to confirm that."

He added, "I thank you all for working with me for these 16 years. There were understanding and misunderstanding sometimes and it was very natural. I am not holding anything against you and I request you to do the same. Thank you very much for your support. Let's hope that the Bangladesh Football Federation go ahead in the coming days."

"I am happy that I am leaving with the news of our victory in the under-20 Championship. It is a matter of satisfaction for me," said the first sports superstar in the country.

Salahuddin said that he took the decision without any pressure.

The next BFF executive committee election is scheduled to be held on 26 October. A protest was going on demanding Salahuddin's resignation from the post for quite a while.

Two weeks ago, from a demonstration by the former national booters, in front of the BFF, former ace keeper of the national football team Aminul Haque said that they were going to request the earth's football governing body FIFA in a formal way to delay the upcoming general election of BFF. They later met BFF general secretary Imran Hossain Tushar and informed him about their demand.

Salahuddin was elected as the BFF president for the first time in 2008. He managed to get re-elected thrice in 2012, 2016, and 2020 in a row. Once, it was thought that the post was fixed for him. After the downfall of Sheikh Hasina's regime of 15 years and her run away from the country, many began demanding Kazi Salahuddin's resignation from the post.

But BFF President Kazi Salahuddin kept restating that he was going to contest for the president post fifth time. Now, with his decision to not contest the election, the issue seems settled.

However, the football enthusiasts of the country are yet to see different contestants for the BFF president post in the next election.
