440kg Hilsa seized while being smuggled to India

CUMILLA, Sept 14: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 440 kilograms of Hilsa while the fish being smuggled to India through Cumilla border on Friday. 

The fish were seized earlier in the morning from Monora border area under Brahmanpara Upazila in the district.
AM Jaber Bin Jabbar, commander of BGB-60 Battalion, confirmed the matter in a press release signed on Friday afternoon.

According to the the notification, the consignment of Hilsa fish was found 500 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 2057/2-S in Monora area of Brahmanpara Upazila. However, no one was made arrested as the smugglers managed to flee the scene upon hearing the arrival of BGB personnel. 

The market value of the seized fish is Tk 9.68 lakh, and has been sold with the proceeds deposited into the government treasury, the press release added.
