Road mishaps claim eight lives in five districts

Eight people including a couple have been killed in separate road accidents in five districts - Naogaon, Mymensingh, Bogura, Munshiganj and Barishal, in three days.
 
ATRAI, NAOGAON: A newly married groom was killed and another injured in a road accident in Atrai Upazila of the district on Saturday morning. 

The accident took place in Gondogohali Village on the Atrai-Bandaikhara road of the upazila at around 10 am. 

The deceased was identified as Sazedur Rahman, 24, son of Azadul Pramanik, a resident of Nandannali Village in the upazila. 

Police and local sources said that a post-weeding programme was going on in the house of Sazedur on Saturday. Sazedur and his brother-in-law Mishon were returning home in the morning riding on a motorcycle from Atrai Market after buying yogurt and various sweets.

When they arrived in Gondogohali area, they fell from the motorcycle while giving side to a van, which left both of them critically injured. 

Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Atrai Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Sazedur dead.
 
Mishon was, later, transferred to Naogaon Medical College Hospital for better treatment after giving initial treatment in the health complex. 

Earlier, Sajedur got married on Friday morning. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Atrai Police Station (PS) Lutfar Rahman confirmed the incident, saying that being informed, police have been sent to the scene. 

However, legal procedures are underway in this regard, the OC added.

MYMENSINGH: An army person and his wife were killed when their motorbike crashed into a truck in the city on Friday.

The accident took place on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Shikarikanda area of the city in the evening.

The deceased were identified as Nazmul Pervez, 32, an army member posted at Momenshahi Cantonment, and his wife Dilrube Jebin, 23.

Quoting the locals, Inspector of Mymensingh Kotwali Model PS Anwar Hossain said that the accident occurred in the evening near Akua Sarkar Bari when the motorbike carrying the couple dashed the truck from behind, which left the duo dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies, the OC added.

It was known that the couple went out for a joy trip on Friday and met the tragedy while returning to their residence from Trishal Upazila of Mymensingh.

BOGURA: A motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a bus in Sherpur Upazila of the district on Friday night.

The accident took place in Garidah Over Bridge area of the upazila at around 8:45 pm.

The deceased was identified as Liakat Ali, 60, a resident of Chetuapara Village under Shajahanpur Upazila in the district. 

Police and local sources said that Liakat Ali was returning home from Sherpur Upazila Town in the district at night riding on a motorcycle after finishing work. On the way, an unidentified bus hit the motorcycle in Garidah Over Bridge area of Sherpur Upazila at around 8:45 pm from behind, which left Liakat Ali seriously injured.

Later on, Fire Service personnel rescued the injured and rushed him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH), where the on-duty doctor declared Liakat Ali dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the SZRMCH morgue for an autopsy.

Sherpur PS OC Rezaul Karim confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

MUNSHIGANJ: Two young men were killed after a lorry truck rammed their bike in Gajaria Upazila of the district on Thursday.

The accident took place in Pakhir Mor area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway of the upazila at night.

The deceased were identified as Tanvir Hossain Rony, 23, son of Delwar Hossain, a resident of Palgiri Village under Gohat North Union of Kachua Upazila in Chandpur District, and Jahid Hasan Jipu, 23, son of Dulal Mia, from the same village. Tanvir was a fourth-year honours student of Dhaka College and Jahid was also the same year student of Chandpur Government College.

Delwar Hossain, father of the deceased Tanvir, said that the duos were returning home from Dhaka, riding on a motorcycle when a lorry truck rammed their bike coming from the opposite direction in Kachua area, which left Tanvir dead on the spot and Jahid critically injured.

Later on, Jahid succumbed to his injuries on the way to nearby Gouripur Upazila Health Complex, he said.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies.

Kachua PS OC Mijanur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.

BARISHAL: Two persons were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and an easy-bike in Agailjhara Upazila of the district on Thursday. 

The accident took place in Rathbari area of Pakurita Village on the Barisal-Gopalganj regional highway under the upazila in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Nur Hossain Kazi, hailed from Khajuria Village under Baghdha Union of Agailjhara Upazila, and Helal Sharif of Gaurnadi Upazila in the district.

According to police and locals, an easy-bike was going to Khajuria of the upazila in the morning. At that time, a truck collided with the easy-bike in Rathbari area of Pakurita Village on the Barisal-Gopalganj regional highway. The three-wheeler and the truck fell into a nearby canal after losing control at that time. 

Nur Hossain died on the spot. Locals rescued easy-bike driver Helal Sharif in a critical condition, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to a Barishal hospital.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Agailjhara PS OC Alam Chand confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken place in this regard.
