Port Road turns deplorable in Barishal City

BARISHAL, Sept 15: Port Road in the city's commercial area has been deplorable, causing immense public sufferings to thousands of people and vehicles and hampering businesses.  

This important road has developed big puddles at different places. Vehicles are committing accidents on the road regularly. Already several people including children have been injured in mishaps, and they were treated in hospital. 

A visit found de-carpeted condition of the road having big holes here and there.

Suffering people demanded rapid repairing of the road. 

Traders along the Port road said, they are facing bad time of businesses due to the worse road; customers have decreased. They are counting losses.  

They also demanded its repairing soon. 

Assistant Engineer of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Mohammad Abu Saleh Sagor said, a project of Tk 6 crore for repairing 404 metre of the Port road and new construction has been sent. 

If the project is passed, the work will begin through work order, the  BIWTA official added.
