Policeman cut by train in Sylhet

A policeman was killed after being crushed under the wheels of a train in the Shibbari area at Dakshin Surma upazila in Sylhet district on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Zahirul Haque, hailed from Madhyanagar upazila of Sunamganj. He was a constable in the South Surma Police Station.

The accident occurred in the Shibbari area of South Surma of the town around 9:30 pm on Wednesday, said Md Saiful Islam Patwari, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Railway Police Station.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.

Raju, son of the victim, said his father went to Shibbari Ahle Sunnah Jame Masjid to offer Esha prayers. “My father died on the spot when he was hit by a train while returning home after praying,” he said.
