Policeman crushed under train in Sylhet

A policeman was crushed under a train in Dakshin Surma Upazila of Sylhet on Wednesday night.

The accident took place in Shibbari area of the upazila at around 9:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Zahirul Haque, hailed from Madhyanagar Upazila of Sunamganj. He was a constable in the South Surma Police Station (PS).

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sylhet Railway PS Md Saiful Islam Patwari said that a train hit Zahirul in Shibbari area at around 9:30 pm, leaving him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the OC added.

Raju, son of the deceased, said that his father went to Shibbari Ahle Sunnah Jame Masjid to offer Esha prayers. "My father died on the spot when he was hit by a train while returning home after the prayer," he said.
