Road mishaps claim seven lives in seven districts

Seven people including two women and a minor girl have been killed and at least 12 others injured in separate road accidents in seven districts - Thakurgaon, Barishal, Naogaon, Faridpur, Tangail, Narayanganj and Munshiganj, in four days. 

THAKURGAON: A young man was killed and six others were injured as a private car overturned after losing its control over the steering in Ranisankail Upazila of the district on Friday.

The accident took place in the afternoon in front of Water Development Board on the Ranisankail-Nekmarad highway in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Raisul Islam, 26, son of Afroz Uddin, a resident of Sheikhpur area under Sadar Upazila in Dinajpur District.

According to police and local sources, a private car from Ranisankail Upazila overturned into the highway as its driver lost control over the steering in front of Water Development Board in the afternoon. A passenger of the car died on the spot and six others were critically injured at that time.

Later on, Fire Service personnel with the help of local people rescued the injured and admitted them to Ranisankail Upazila Health Complex.

Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ranisankail Police Station (PS) Jayanta Kumar Saha confirmed the incident, adding an unnatural death case was filed with the PS and legal actions will be taken in this regard.

BARISHAL: A minor girl was killed and four others were injured in a road accident in Agailjhara Upazila of the district on Thursday.
The accident took place in Boramgarah area of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Payel, 8, daughter of Pabitra Natta, a resident of Baherghat Village under Wazirpur Upazila in the district. She was a second grader at a primary school. 

The injured persons are: Sanjib Natta, 35, of Baherghat Village, the deceased's mother Kabita Natta, 30, Sathi Biswas, 20, daughter of Boloram Biswas, and Sunil Roy, 55. 

Quoting locals, police sources said that Kabita, Sathi and Payel went to visit Kotalipara Padma Beel on Thursday. They were returning home in Wazirpur Upazila from there riding on a rented motorcycle. On the way, the motorcycle hit a pedestrian, named Sunil Roy, while he was crossing the road in Boramgarah area of Agailjhara. Payel died on the spot and four others were critically injured at that time. 
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene.

The injured people were also rescued from there and taken to Agailjhara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor shifted two people to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Agailjhara PS OC Alam Chand confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

DHAMOIRHAT, NAOGAON: A teenage boy was killed and two others including a schoolgirl were injured in a collision between a three-wheeler and a cycle in Dhamoirhat Upazila of the district on Thursday morning.

The accident took place in Nanaich intersection area on the Dhamoirhat-Joypurhat road of the upazila at around 9:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Rajib Hossain, 15, son of Badsha Hossain, a resident of Golap Bazar area under Shibganj Upazila in Chapainawabganj District. 

The injured persons are: bicyclist Happy Baru, a seventh grader at Jahanpur Schedule Cast High School, and three-wheeler driver Sujon, 22. 

It was known that a bhotbhoti (local three-wheeler vehicle) carrying its owner's son Rajib was heading towards Ranirganj Cattle Haat in Dinajpur from Golap Bazar in Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj in the morning. On the way, the bhotbhoti collided with a bicycle driven by Happy Baru in Nanaich intersection area on the Dhamoirhat-Joypurhat road at around 9:30 am. Three people were seriously injured at that time. 

Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Dhamoirhat Upazila Health Complex. Then, Sujon and Rajib were shifted to Joypurhat Sadar Adhunik Hospital following the deterioration of their condition, where Rajib succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.      
Being informed, police visited the scene.

Dhamoirhat PS OC Md Raisul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken if any complaint is received in this connection.

BHANGA, FARIDPUR: A female pedestrian was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in Banga Upazila of the district early Thursday.

The accident took place in Kharakandi area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway under the upazila at around 1 am.

The identity of the deceased, aged about 45, could not be known immediately.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Bhanga Highway PS Abdullahel Baki said that the woman was rescued from the scene in Kharakandi area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at early hours in a bloody state and brought to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead. It seemed that the woman died due to her severe head injuries after being hit by a careless vehicle.

However, police are trying to find out the identity of the woman, the SI added.

MIRZAPUR, TANGAIL: A woman was killed and her husband injured in a road accident in Mirzapur Upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The accident took place in front of Mirzapur Cadet College on the Dhaka-Tangail highway of the upazila at around 11 pm.

The deceased was identified as Shiuli Akter, 45, wife of Shariful Islam. Shiuli Akter worked as an assistant team leader in the Production Department at Square Pharmaceuticals Limited in Mirzapur and her husband Shariful as a senior assistant fitter in the engineering department of that company.

Quoting locals, Mirzapur PS SI Zahurul Islam said that the two were returning home from work riding on a motorcycle at night. On the way, Shiuli died on the spot when an unknown car hit the motorcycle in front of Mirzapur Cadet College at around 11 pm. Her husband was seriously injured at that time. He was rescued and admitted to a hospital.

Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased.

However, the law enforcers are trying to identify the killer car and arrest its driver, said the SI adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard. 

NARAYANGANJ: A police official was killed in a road accident in the city on Tuesday night.

The accident took place in Mouchak area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway of Siddhirganj in the city.

The deceased was identified as Abu Bakkar Siddique, 38, son of Ashraf Ali, hailed from Danihari Dolpara area under Kamalpur Union in Sadar Upazila of Dinajpur District. He was as an assistant SI of Industrial Police in Narayanganj. 

Quoting locals, Shimrail Police Camp TI Abu Nayeem said that an unidentified vehicle hit Abu Bakkar Siddique in Mouchak area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at night, which left him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

However, the law enforcers are trying to identify the vehicle and arrest its driver, the official added. 

MUNSHIGANJ: A young man was killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Mawa expressway in Sirajdikhan Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The accident took place in Kuchiamora Underpass Bridge area on the expressway of the upazila at around 11:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Fahad Mastasir Tonmoy, 26, son of Salam Jamadar, hailed Satmail Village under Airport PS in Barishal District.

Quoting locals, Hasara Highway PS SI Jamirul Islam said that the accident occurred when the Dhaka-bound motorcycle driven by Tonmoy hit a stationary truck from behind after losing its control over the steering in Kuchiamora Underpass Bridge area on the expressway of the upazila at around 11:30 am, which left him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members after completing legal procedures.
However, necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the police official added.
