'CHT blockade' continues in Rangamati

The 72-hour roads and waterways blockade (CHT blockade) in Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban have continued for the second consecutive day.

The communication of Khagrachhari with Dhaka and Chittagong have been suspended for the second day on Sunday. Inter-district bus movement is also closed in upazilas, including Dighinala, Panchhori, Matiranga.

Markets and shopping malls also shut due to the blockade. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert at every points of the district.
UPDF urged all to make the blockade programme a success.

The protesters were seen staged demonstration in the morning in Sajek, Panchhari, Ramgor roads burning tyres. But no reports of violence anywhere in the district.

Meanwhile, section 144, which was called on Friday following a clash between Bangalis and indigenous people, has been withdrawn at 11AM on Sunday as the situation is now normal.

Four people were killed in Rangamati town and Kharachhari's Dighinala in clashes between Bangalis and indigenous people on Thursday and Friday. Some business shops were also set ablaze.

Protesting the killing and arson attack, indigenous Jumma people called the 72-hour blockade of roads and waterways which began on Saturday.
