A 22-day government ban on catching, selling, hoarding and transporting of hilsa fish will begin from October 13 to save mother hilsa during peak breeding season.

The ban will remain in place till November 3.

Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter said the decision was taken at a meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday.

She said the ban is going to be imposed with an aim to protect the mother hilsa which lay eggs during the period.
She said that action will be taken against those who will violate the law during the mother hilsa conservation campaign.
