Addl IGP among 6 top police officials sent on forced retirement

Six top police officials, including an additional inspector general of police (IGP), were sent on forced retirement on Sunday.

The six officials are -- Additional Inspector General of police (IGP) Debdas Bhattacharya, chief of Bangladesh Railway Police; AKM Hafiz Akhter, deputy IGP of Industrial Police; Bashir Ahmed, deputy IGP of Police Telecom, Dhaka; Md Mizanur Rahman, superintendent of police (SP), Range Reserve Force (RRF), Md Rafiqul Islam, assistant superintendent of police (ASP), Armed Police Battalion (APBn); and Md Dadan Fakir, ASP of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.


The Ministry of Home Affairs issued six separate notifications in this regard on Sunday.
According to the circulars signed by Senior Secretary Mohammad Abdul Momen, the move was taken in public interest.

The circular invoked Section 45 of the Public Service Act 2018.

Earlier, on September 2, four top police officials, including two additional inspectors general of police (IGP), were sent into forced retirement.

The four officials are additional IGP Khandker Lutful Kabir of Police Headquarters and Mir Rezaul Alam of Tourist Police; deputy inspector general (DIG) Imam Hossain of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and additional DIG Chowdhury Manjurul Kabir of Police Training Centre in Noakhali.

Besides, on August 13, chief of Special Branch (SB) of police Addl IGP Md Monirul Islam and former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Habibur Rahman were sent to forced retirement.

On August 21, Md Atiqul Islam and Md Anwar Hossain, additional IGPs at the Police Headquarters, and Md Asaduzzaman, chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit of the DMP, were forced to retire.
