Four people murdered in four districts

Four people have been murdered in separate incidents in four districts - Chandpur, Rajbari, Sirajganj and Jashore, in two days.

CHANDPUR: A teenage boy, who was injured during clashes between two factions of BNP in Hajiganj Upazila of the district on Friday, died at a hospital in Dhaka at around 8 pm on Saturday while undergoing treatment.

The deceased was identified as Saimun, 14, son of Md Yunus of Charbakila Village under Sadar Upazila of the district. He was a student of a Hifz madrasa and used to live along with his family members in Hajiganj Municipality.

The deceased's father said that Saimun went to the Hajganj Bazar and got caught in clashes between the two groups of BNP on Friday, which left around 50 people including him injured.

He was rescued and rushed to a local hospital first, and later, shifted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital,
Later on, he was again shifted to a hospital in Dhaka for better treatment, where Shimul succumbed to his injuries at around 8 pm on Saturday while undergoing treatment, his father added.

The clashes occurred between the factions led by Engineer Mominul Haque, former president of Chandpur BNP, and a member of BNP's Central Executive Committee, in Hajiganj Upazila.

A case was filed with the Hajiganj Police Station (PS) accusing 400 people in this regard on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the joint forces have arrested two youths, named Mohammad Rifat, 19, and Md Imran Hossain, 23, in this connection.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hajiganj PS Mohiuddin Faruk confirmed the incident.

RAJBARI: A man was reportedly beaten to death by mob on suspicion of being a thief in Kalukhali Upazila of the district on Saturday morning. 

The incident was occurred a day after the police warned that strict action will be taken if anyone takes law on their own hand. 

The deceased was identified as Nazmul Hossain Molla, 32, son of Ahmed Molla, a resident of Garakhola Village under Madhukhali Upazila in Faridpur District.   

Quoting locals, Kalukhali PS OC Mohammad Zahedur Rahman said that Nazmul along with his two cohorts were returning after stealing a transformer of Palli Bidyut in Harinbaria Village of Kalukhali Upazila early in the morning.

Sensing the matter, local people chased them, and caught Nazmul, while his two associates managed to escape the scene.

 Agitated people then beat up Nazmul indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.

Dr Israt Jahan, health and family planning officer of Kalukhali Upazila Health Complex, said that some unidentified people brought the man and left him near the staircase of the heath complex at around 8:45 am.

Later on, the man died at around 12:30 pm on Saturday while undergoing treatment at the health complex. They informed the matter to the police, she added.

The OC said that the body of Nazmul has been recovered and sent to the Rajbari Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. There were 11 cases filed against Nazmul with different PSs.

However, necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.

SIRAJGANJ: A young man was killed in an attack carried out by miscreants in Ullapara Upazila of the district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Sabuj Ali Sheikh, 28, son of Abdus Salam Sheikh, a resident of Rashipur Eastpara Village under Salanga Union in the upazila.

Former member of Salanga Union Parishad (UP) Mohammad Ali Shamim said that Sabuj was working as a helper of 'Barendra Express' bus in place of his brother as he fell sick. After 2:15 am on Friday, Sabuj's mobile phone was found switched off and he went out of touch.

Later on, he was found in critical condition near a brick kiln in Dhopakandi area of the union. He was then rescued and taken to Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Being informed, police have recovered the body and sent it to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Salanga PS Inspector (Investigation) Tajuddin Ahmed confirmed the incident, adding that the motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained and legal actions will be taken after investigation.

JASHORE: A man was killed and two others were injured in an attack carried out by miscreants in Abhaynagar Upazila of the district early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Matiar Rahman Biswas, 45, son of late Hashem Ali, a resident of Ward No. 2 Masharhati Village under Nawapara Municipality.

The incident took place in the area adjacent to Bhairab Bridge in Masharhati Village of the municipality.

Local sources said it was announced late at night using loudspeakers of Masharhati Sheikhpara Jame Mosque that some robbers have entered the area. At around 12:30 am, a group of miscreants went to a tea stall adjacent to Bhairab Bridge, and attacked them.

Later on, locals rescued the injured and took them to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex, where Matiar was declared dead upon arrival.

Two other people were shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.

Being informed, police visited the scene.

Abhaynagar PS OC SM Akiqul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that efforts are going on to arrest those involved in the killing.

A tense situation has been prevailing in the area since the incident and army personnel were deployed to avert any further unwanted situation.
