KHULNA, Sept 23: People from all walks of life on Monday formed a human chain demanding  immediate withdrawal of newly appointed Khulna Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Saiful Islam for his connection with Chhatra League (BCL) during his student life.
Human chain organizers threatened dire consequence and announced besieging the DC office if their demand is not met in the next 24 hours.
They also demanded exemplary punishment for him on charge of cooperation in committing genocide during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement for saving Hasina's fascist government.
On September 9, the government appointed Mohammad Saiful Islam as Khulna DC after withdrawal and transfer of immediate past DC Khandokar Yasir Arefin on August 20.
Coordinator of the Movement Journalist Rashedul Islam presided over the human chain held in front of the DC office premises while Advocate Mahfuzur Rahman Mofiz conducted it.
Leaders of different social, cultural, journalists' organizations and civil society, among others, spoke at the human chain.
Speakers said, Saiful Islam was a cadre of CL. He was linked as personal associate of the then central CL president Bahadur Bepary for four years from 1998.
Many stories of corruption and irregularities against him were published in media during his UNO term in Moulvibazar Upazila after passing 24th BCS exam.
The speakers said, Saiful was playing vital role to control the mass movement for saving fascist Sheikh Hasina's government while he worked as Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration.
