Dengue disease spreads in districts

The dengue disease has spread in different districts of the country including Dinajpur and Rajshahi in recent times.

DINAJPUR: The number of dengue patients are increasing in Dinajpur Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the district.

A recent visit on Friday (Sept 13) found seven dengue patients undergoing treatment in the hospital. They are all returnees from Dhaka. There is vein saline crisis in the hospital. 

Hospital authorities said, they have sent demand approach for vein saline.

According to sources at the DMCH, five of them are men and two ones are women; some of them came from Dhaka carrying dengue while others were tested positive after coming. But all are out of fear.

These seven dengue patients were admitted to the hospital from Tuesday to Thursday.    

Tamanna and Nusrat are students in Dhaka. On Wednesday they were admitted to the hospital.

Nusrat said, she came from Dhaka on Monday carrying fever; later on, she was tested on Tuesday and found positive. It is the same case of Tamanna.      

Dengue-affected Mohammad Manu and Mizanur Rahman are plastic factory employee and garments factory employee respectively in Dhaka. They were affected by dengue in Dhaka. 

Due to lack of vein saline, patients are purchasing normal saline (NS) and glucose-sodium chloride (DNS) from the outside.

Over mobile phone DMCH's Statistics Officer Jahangir Alam said,  two dengue patients were admitted  in June, five ones in July and 18 ones in August; and this month so far 32 patients were admitted.

At present, seven ones are undergoing treatment, he added.  
  
He further said, "There is vein saline crisis. Considering the situation of the bad time, this saline is given at limited scale. Patients have to bring the saline from the outside. We have sent our demand for saline. We hope to get the saline soon.

RAJSHAHI: The number of dengue patients are on the rise in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

In the absence of dengue ward, patients are being treated in different wards of the RMCH. 

According to the RMCH sources, at present, a total of 14 dengue patients including two children  are undergoing treatment in the hospital. 

Two patients, Belal of Durgapur and Sakila of Bagmara are being treated in the ICU. 

Except Rokanujjaman who was affected in his area in Rajshahi, all of them were affected in Dhaka. 

The admitted patients included Rafat, 23, of Ishwardi in Pabna, Rahid, 40, of Naogaon, Habiba of Motihar Thana in the city, Arshia, 3, Al Amin, 27, and Jasmine, 17, of Gomastapur Upazila in Chapainawabganj, Munsur Ali, 60, of Charghat Upazila, Atiqul, 30, of Godagari Upazila, Sathi, 20, of Bagha Upazila, Biplob, 8, of Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, Belal, 35, of Durgapur Upazila, Sakila, 20, of Bagmara Upazila, Omar Ali, 31, of Niamatpur Upazila-Naogaon, and Rokonujjaman of Alamdanga Upazila-Chuadanga. 

This dengue season, a total of 152 dengue patients were admitted to the RMCH; of them 138 ones were released; and the remaining 14 ones are still taking treatment.

But no fatality was reported.

Biplob is the old dengue patient of the RMCH. He has been undergoing treatment since September 11.

All other 12 patients are taking treatment in Ward No. 13, 14, 16, 24, and 38.

Arshia's father Azim Hossain said, he lives in Dhaka for his job along with his family members; few days back Arshia came home; later on, she was affected by pneumonia and diarrhoea; firstly she was admitted to upazila health complex; but later on, she was referred to RMCH as her condition was deteriorating.

She was tested positive of dengue in the RMCH.

"Pneumonia, diarrhoea and dengue were treated together. At present, she is curing. We hope to return home soon," he added.
In-Charge of the Emergency Department of the RMCH Dr Shankar K Biswas confirmed this information. 

If the patient pressure goes up, separate dengue ward will be created for the dengue patients, he added.
