KAMALNAGAR, LAXMIPUR, Sept 23: The district administration fixed a financial allocation of about Tk 36 crore for reconstructing about 56,000 houses damaged due to flood in the district.
This information was confirmed by District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Yunus Mia.
The flooding began in mid-August damaging 6,380 houses in different areas in Kamalnagar.
To repair these houses about Tk 35,74,000 have been fixed.
Dwellers of Charquadira, Charbasu, and Charpagla areas cannot repair their houses because of financial crisis.
Water recession is taking places in some areas. Yet several families are still in shelter centres.
They said, as the water is receding slowly, the long-staying water-logging will increase damages. They don't have financial capacity to repair their houses.
A dweller of Charquadira area Md Moijol said, their localities went under 4-5 feet water; water entered their living houses; they took shelters on cot.
Now with receding the water, their suffering is not ending as their houses are not fit for living.
A dweller Abul Basar said, he has been affected because of his house collapse; and he has no ability to repair his broken house.
Kamalnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Suchitra Ranjan Das said, the flood damaged hugely in the upazila; a primary damage list has been sent to the ministry concerned; if allocation is received, this will be distributed among affected people on priority basis.
