Eight people murdered in seven districts

Eight people were murdered and 10 others injured in separate incidents in seven districts - Bagerhat, Bogura, Rajbari, Pabna, Kishoreganj, Kurigram and Madaripur, in two days. 
BAGERHAT: A young woman found dead at a rented house in Mongla Upazila of the district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Anika, 23, wife of Tufan Sheikh of Darogar Pukurpar Pabla area in Daulatpur Police Station (PS) in Bagerhat. 
After the recovery of the body, her husband Tufan Sheikh went into hiding.
Locals said, the couple have been living in the rented house for last eight months. On Monday morning, Tufan called Anika's uncle and informed, Anika committed suicide. 
Being informed, the uncle rushed there and broke into the room and found Anika lying on the bed.
According to the family members, Anika and Tufan got married five years back; since their marriage, they used to fight often over family disputes and Tufan used to threaten to kill Anika strangling.
"Tufan strangled my daughter to death. I want exemplary punishment in this regard," said the victim's mother.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mongla PS KM Azizul Islam confirmed the recovery of the body. He suspected it might be a murder.
The actual reason behind the death will be known after an autopsy, the OC added.
BOGURA: An alleged top terror and another individual were hacked to death by assailants in Shahjahanpur Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
The incident took place at Chhoto Mandalpara in Sabraul area under the upazila at around 8 pm.
The deceased were identified as Sagar Talukdar alias Tekai Sagar, 29, son of Golam Talukdar, and Swapan Mia, son of Saiful Islam. Both of them were residents of Haatkhola Para Village under Ashekpur Union in the upazila. Sagar, also a leader of Shecchashebak League, had 17 cases filed against him with different PSs.
Police and local sources said that the two were hanging out with a group at Chhoto Mandalpara in Sabraul area when 7 to 8 attackers arrived on motorcycles, surrounded them, and assaulted them with sharp weapons. Both Sagar and Swapan died on the spot, and several others were injured at that time.
Being informed, police have recovered the bodies of the deceased and sent those to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies.
Additional Superintend of Police Sumon Ranjan Sarker confirmed the incident, adding that police have been deployed in the area to avert further unwanted situation and legal action would be taken in this connection.
GOALANDA, RAJBARI: A former member of an extremist group was shot and hacked to death by miscreants in Goalanda Upazila of the district on Sunday evening.
The incident took place near a tea stall in Kataikhali area of the upazila at around 6:15 pm.
The deceased was identified as Sushil Kumar Sarker, 57, son of late Monindra Nath Sarker, a resident of Haulikheutil area in the upazila. He had multiple criminal cases including two of murder and three under the Arms Act filed against him.
The deceased's younger brother Sunil Sarker said that he rushed to the scene after being informed that his brother had been attacked. He found Sushil lying near a tea stall and immediately took him to a local hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Sushil Kumar dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Rajbari Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Goalanda Ghat PS OC Md Rakibul Islam said that internal conflict within the extremist group might be the reason behind the killing. 
Sushil had stab wounds on his neck and gunshot marks on his abdomen. 
However, the law enforcers are investigating to identify and arrest the killers, the OC added.
SANTHIA, PABNA: A young man, who was injured in a clash centring a football match in Santhia Upazila of the district, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday night.
Deceased Ariful Islam, 24, was the son of Shahadat Sheikh, a resident of Chhatakbarat Village under Kashinathpur Union in the upazila. He was a farmer by profession.
Local sources said that the villagers of Gopalpur and Dwariapur were locked in a clash with each other over a football match held on Dwariapur High School Field on Thursday last. Following this, the opponents attacked on Ariful in front of a grocery shop in Kkhudra Gopalpur Village on Sunday noon, and hacked him with sharp weapons, leaving the youth critically injured.
He was then rescued and taken to Pabna Sadar Hospital first, and later, shifted to the RMCH, where Ariful succumbed to his injuries at around 8 pm.   
Santhia PS OC Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed in this regard.
KISHOREGANJ: A man was beaten to death reportedly following a dispute over distribution of food (made in the name of God or some saint) at a local mosque in Itna Upazila of the district. 
He died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after being injured by his rivals on Friday last.
Deceased Md Wahab Bhuiyan, 45, son of late Ajgar Ali, was a resident of Udiarpar Khalpar Haati under Itna Sadar Union in the upazila.
According to local sources, the dispute began on Friday after Jumma prayers when a disagreement over the distribution of food (locally called tabarak) escalated. Wahab was, later, attacked and severely beaten by his rivals when they found him alone on a road, leaving him critically injured. 
Injured Wahab was then rescued and initially taken to Kishoreganj General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor referred him to the DMCH due to the severity of his injuries. 
Later on, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday at the DMCH while undergoing treatment.
Following the news of Wahab's death, tensions flared between the two groups involved. Security forces including members of the 15 E-Battalion and police were deployed in the area to control law and order situation. They managed to restore order within an hour, detaining two individuals along with weapons used in the attack.
Itna PS OC Zakir Rabbani confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
NAGESHWARI, KURIGRAM: A mentally-challenged youth, who was beaten by some people in Nageshwari Upazila of the district, died on Sunday afternoon.
Deceased Jahidul Islam, 35, was the son of Boyej Uddin, a resident of Bhitarbanda Coachpara Village in the upazila. 
The deceased's elder brother Emdadul Haque said that Jahidul was a mentally-challenged youth. On August 4 last, Jahidul laughed at the wife of one Nazrul Islam, 30, in Chandipur Village under Hasnabad Union of the upazila while the housewife was bathing in a pond. Following this, Nazrul along with his cohorts including Rafiqul and Habibur beat up Jahidul, leaving him critically injured.
Injured Jahedul was then admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
After returning home from there, he again fell sick and subsequently taken to Kurigram Sadar Hospital. 
Later on, he died at around 4 pm on Sunday while undergoing treatment at home.  
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Kurigram Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The deceased's elder brother lodged a murder case with Nageshwari PS on the same night.
Nageshwari PS OC Rup Kumar confirmed the incident. 
MADARIPUR: A youth was killed and at least 10 others were injured in a clash between two groups over establishing supremacy in Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The incident took place in Charmuguria area of the upazila at around 9 pm.
The deceased was identified as Iqbal Matubbar, 30, son of Choleman Matubbar, a resident of Gachhbaria area under Pairpur Union in the upazila.  
According to police and local sources, there was a dispute between Khan and Mridha groups over establishing supremacy in Charmuguria area for long. Following the enmity, two groups were locked into a clash with each others at around 9 pm on Saturday. Several shops were vandalised and a house was torched during the clash. At the time, both sides threw several hand grenades, which left at least 11 people including Iqbal Matubbar seriously injured. 
Injured Iqbal was then rescued and admitted to Madaripur Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor referred him to the DMCH.
Later on, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka.
Superintendent of Police in Madaripur Md Saifuzzaman confirmed the incident, saying that, additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further collision.
