Ex-IGP Mamun on 4-day remand

Former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was placed on a four-day remand by a Dhaka court on Tuesday in a case filed over the death of 16-year-old Mohammad Ismamul Haque during mass protests in August.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman passed the order after Investigation Officer Md Mainul Islam Khan Puluk, also Sub-Inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer for interrogation.

Young dramatist Rafat Mozumder Rinku was sent to jail by a Dhaka court on Tuesday in a case filed over the death of a college student during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah passed the order after the case's investigation officer, Md Razu Ahmed, also Sub-Inspector of Gulshan Police Station, produced Rinku before it.

A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered police to quiz Dr Md Hasanul Haque Nipun, Assistant Professor at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at Jail gate in a case filed over attacking students of anti-discrimination movement.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ragib Noor passed the order after Investigation Officer Mainul Islam Khan also Sub-Inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, produced him before the court with a five-day remand prayer for interrogation.

Former IGP Mamun was produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman with a prayer to grant a ten-day remand.

According to the case statement, Ismmul Haque took part in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 5. 

At that time, orders were given by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and others to open fire to suppress the movement. 

Rinku was arrested from the capital's Gulshan area on Monday, he was not named in the first information report, Rinku was found present at the spot of the incident during the time of occurrence and was found involved in the killing, said the Investigating Officer, asking for his confinement until the investigation is completed.
