Former inspector of Jatrabari Police Station Mazharul Islam has been sent to jail after end of his five-day remand in a case lodged over killing a madrasha student during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mosharraf Hossain passed the order on Wednesday as Mazhar was produced before the court upon completion of his five days remand.
Mazharul was arrested from the Armed Police Special Training Centre in Khagrachari on September 17 in connection with a case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque placed him on a five-day remand after police produced Mazharul before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.
According to the case documents, on July 19, Madras student Arif, suffered critical bullet wounds in his eye at Kutubkhali area under Jatrabari thana area. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors pronounced him dead.
Following the incident, Md Yusuf, father of the victim, filed the murder case with Jatrabari Police Station in this connection.
