Elephant kills mahout in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, Sept 25: A mahout was trampled to death by his elephant in Kotalipara Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Polsair area under Hiran Union of the upazila at around 9:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 35, son of Jaber Sheikh, a resident of Mogalbasa Village under Sadar Upazila in Kurigram District.

It was known that Nazrul Islam was riding the elephant. At one stage, the elephant threw him on the ground and trampled him, leaving the mahout dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members. 

Officer-in-Charge of Kotalipara Police Station Md Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the incident.
