KFH, agri students deliver support to Noakhali flood-hit farmers

A successful initiative to distribute rice seedlings and agricultural inputs to flood-affected farmers was held at Bhuiyar Hat High School in Char Jabbar Union, Subarnachar Upazila, Noakhali recently.  

The programme, a collaborative effort between the Krishibid Foundation for Humanity (KFH) and Agri Students Alliance BD, provided essential resources to 200 local farmers with support from Dhaka Bank, says a press release. 

Each farmer received rice seedlings of the Dhanigold and Bina-17 varieties sufficient for one bigha of land, urea, TSP, MOP, and DAP fertilizers and necessary pesticides. This timely support aims to help farmers recover from the devastating impact of recent floods. Md. Katebur Rahman, SVP and Head of the Agriculture Banking Unit at Dhaka Bank, expressed pride in standing by the farmers. "We are committed to supporting the rehabilitation of flood victims and will collaborate on future initiatives for farmers' welfare," he stated.

Ashikur Rahman, convener of Agri Students Alliance BD, noted the urgency of this initiative. "Working alongside Bangladesh Agricultural University, we aim to ensure timely production of rice seedlings despite limitations in seed availability due to seasonal constraints. We also plan to provide seeds and seedlings for other crops."

KFH Chairman, Muhammad Shamsul Islam, emphasised the organisation's dedication to food security. "KFH is committed to supporting farmers and plans to launch further initiatives to enhance agricultural practices and improve farmers' quality of life."Farmers who had to overcome the challenge of preparing seedbeds on inundated land expressed their gratitude for the timely assistance. Their resilience in the face of adversity was truly inspiring. Bangladesh Agricultural University and Noakhali Science and Technology University teachers also commended the program's impact.

Dr. Md. Imran Khan Chowdhury, senior scientific officer at the Agricultural Research Institute and KFH member, coordinated logistics for the seedling distribution. Students and representatives of both organizations also participated in the event.
Md. Harun or Rashid, the Agricultural Officer of Subarnachar Upazila, played a crucial role in organizing the event and selecting the beneficiary farmers.

This initiative marks a significant step towards restoring regional agricultural stability and reinforcing community resilience.
