SHARIATPUR, Sept 28: A Juba League activist, who was hacked to injure by some BNP men in Damudya Upazila of the district on Friday, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early Saturday.
The incident took place in Bhangabridge area under Islampur Union of the upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Rasel Sardar, 38, son of Ishaq Sardar, a resident of the area.
Police and locals said that some BNP leaders and activists led by Saiful Madbar hacked Rasel indiscriminately while he was getting his hair cut in a salon, leaving him critically injured.
He was then rescued and taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital and later, transferred to the DMCH, where he succumbed to his injuries at around 3 am on Saturday.
Family members of the deceased demanded justice over the killing of Rasel.
Police suspected that the murder might have happened due to a previous dispute.
Superintendent of Police in Shariatpur Nazrul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken after receiving a written complaint.
