Classes at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) resumed Sunday after nearly two and half months.

The students returned to the campus and were overwhelmed with emotions.

"Many students broke down in tears remembering their brave colleague Shaheed Abu Sayeed, who embraced martyrdom when police opened fire on him during the Anti-Discrimination Student-People Movement on July 16 last," sources said, BSS reports.

After the martyrdom of Abu Sayeed, a student of the Department of English, on July 16, the university was closed from July 17.

Meanwhile, the university's Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali visited different departments, spoke to the students and inquired about their educational activities.

“During the visit, the Vice-Chancellor said that more buses will be purchased for the students to travel to the campus and the route will be increased,” said a press release.

Regarding the classroom crisis, he said that the four-storied academic buildings would be converted into six-storied buildings soon to solve the problem to some extent.

Besides, he mentioned that various crises and problems of the university would be resolved in phases.

The Vice-Chancellor said that since its establishment, this university has been negatively identified in various media for various reasons.

He sought everyone's cooperation to overcome the prevailing crises and turn the university into one of the best universities of the country in the fields of education and research.
