Supreme Court Advocate Shishir Monir was on Sunday appointed lawyer in journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi murder case.

Nowsher Ali Roman, the plaintiff in the case and brother of Runi, appointed Shishir Monir the lawyer to fight the neglected double murder case. Advocate Shishir Monir said, "The mystery behind the murder of journalist couple Sagar-Runi can be unearthed through intense investigation."

Shishir Monir said that he would soon meet with the investigating officer of the case.

The families of the journalist couple will continue the legal battle in both the lower court and the High Court Division to get justice.

Slain journalist Runi's brother Nowsher Alam Roman said that he felt frustrated as the case has not been investigated for a long time. So, his family decided to appoint a new lawyer.

Nowsher Ali urged the interim government to conclude investigation of the gruesome double murder.

Journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi were murdered at their West Rayer Bazar rented flat on February 11, 2012. The mystery of the murder could not be unearthed in more than a decade.

To date, the deadline for submitting the investigation report in the Sagar-Runi murder case has been extended 113 times. The next hearing is scheduled for October 15.

Runi's brother, Nawsher Alam Roman, filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.

Initially, the case was handled by a sub-inspector (SI) of the police station.

However, four days later, due to the sensational nature of the case, the investigation was transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

After more than two months of investigation, DB failed to uncover the mystery.

Consequently, on April 18 of the same year, following a directive from the High Court Division, the case was transferred to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for investigation.

Since then, despite numerous extensions, no investigation report has  been submitted.

There are eight accused in the case, including Runi's friend Tanvir Rahman.

The other accused are the building's security guard Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir, Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Masum Mintu, Kamrul Hasan Aru, Palash Rudra Pal and Abu Sayeed.
