FENI, Sept 30: A student of Class-10, who was injured in police firing during the anti-discrimination student movement, died Monday morning.

Arif, a resident of Madhyam Kausalapur village in Feni's Daganbhaya upazila, passed away from his injuries while being treated at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, as confirmed by his father, Altaf Hossain.

A Dakhil student at Darbeshat Fazil Madrasa, Arif had been visiting his uncle in Chattogram at the end of July. He would stay on there, and on August 4, participated in a protest rally and was injured in police firing. He was initially taken to Chattogram Medical College, but when his condition worsened, he was transferred to CMH in Dhaka around 20 to 25 days ago. He died on Monday morning while still under care.

Arif's uncle, Amjad Hossain, mentioned that the family had taken all the preparations for Arif to go to to Qatar despite their financial difficulties. He was scheduled for a medical examination for this purpose on August 8, which unfortunately did not take place.

Abdul Aziz, who worked as a coordinator of the protests in Feni, reported that a total of 12 individuals lost their lives during the movement in Feni. "We have submitted the list of the 12 martyrs to the ministry," he added.

Nivedita Chakma, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, stated that they are in contact with Arif's family and assured that arrangements for his burial will be made once his body is returned from Dhaka.    —UNB
