499 puja mandaps being installed in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, Oct 2: A total of 499 mandaps will be set up in the district on the occasion of Durga Puja, due from October 9 to 12. 

At present, cleaning and statue making are going on in full swing in Sirajganj. 

This information was confirmed by the district administration sources.

Pals (idol-makers) are passing busy time in finishing their orders of idols timely.  In the statue making, house owners and housewives are assisting the Pals.

Already earthen works of idols have been completed. In different areas, painting works are taking place.

Narayan Pal of Bhadraghat Palpara in Kamarkand Upazila said, this year he is making 13 idols worth Tk 15,000 to one lakh each.
"I have already completed the earthen works. Now I will start the painting," he added.

President of Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad Advocate Sukumar Chandra Das said, "Abiding by the government instructions, we held view -xchange meetings with leaders of all organizations in upazilas of the district, and officials of the district administration and law-enforcing agencies to celebrate the Durga Puja in a peaceful manner."

District Police Superintendent (SP) Faruq Hossain said, security measures will be managed by coordinating with the district administration and locals; there is no reason to be panic.

"Police patrol will be enhanced so that the puja can be celebrated," he added.

SP further said, police, village police, and Ansar will be deployed in each mandap; they will remain alert always.
Besides, he said, there will be extra security measures at the important mandaps.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Tofazzal Hossain said, "We held view-exchange meetings with authorities concerned including the law-enforcing agencies to accomplish the Durga Puja duty properly."
