After the deaths of both parents, a three-year-old child, who suffered burn injuries in an explosion due to a gas leak in a house at Sukrabad in Dhaka, has died.

The death toll from the incident now rose to three.

The child Bayezid died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the city at around 9:30PM on Thursday. Bayezid had burns on 45 per cent of his body, said Md Tariqul Islam, resident surgeon at the burn institute.
On Wednesday, Bayezid’s mother Nipa Begum, who had suffered 32 per cent burn injuries, died while being treated at the institute and on Tuesday (October 1) night, Bayezid’s father, Md Toton Mia, 35, died.

Toton had burns on 50 per cent of his body.

The three suffered serious burn injuries when a fire broke out at their house in the Sukrabad Bazar area between 4AM and 4:30AM on September 28.

Toton’s brother-in-law, Nazrul Islam, and uncle Zakir Hossain, who brought them to the burn institute, reported that there had been a gas leak in the house for several days. The fire originated when a matchstick was lit early on Saturday morning, and it spread quickly, severely burning all three members of the family.

The RAB, the Fire Service, and Titas Gas came afterwards. Nazrul said that a similar fire incident had occurred in the same house about a year ago.
