Thundershowers with 60 km/h wind likely to hit 17 regions

Seventeen regions across the country may experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds at speeds of up to 60 km/h, according to the latest weather forecast issued by Meteorological Office on Friday. 

River ports in these areas have been instructed to hoist cautionary signal number 1.
Meteorologist Md. Omar Faruq confirmed the information, adding that temporary gusty or squally winds, accompanied by rain or thundershowers, are expected in Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Jashore, Kushtia, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, and Sylhet regions, with wind speeds ranging from 45 to 60 km/h from the south/southwest direction. 

In another forecast, it was mentioned that an extension of the monsoon trough extends from Bihar, West Bengal, and central Bangladesh to Assam. The monsoon is active over Bangladesh and is in a moderate to strong state over the northern Bay of Bengal. A low-pressure system may develop over the coastal areas of West Bengal and adjacent southwestern Bangladesh within the next 24 hours.

Until Saturday morning, light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, may occur in most places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Some areas may experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall. Day and night temperatures are likely to decrease slightly across the country.

The forecast also indicate that from Saturday morning to Sunday morning, light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, may occur in most places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions, and in several places in Chattogram and Barishal divisions. There may also be moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas. Day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged across the country.

From Sunday morning to Monday morning, light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, may occur in most places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, in several places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Chattogram divisions, and in a few places in Khulna and Barishal divisions. Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may also occur in some areas. Day and night temperatures may increase slightly across the country. The tendency for rainfall may continue in the extended five-day forecast.
