Police have arrested a local Chhatra League leader in connection with the vandalism and arson of an army vehicle in Gopinathpur area of Gopalganj.
Nirab Shikdar, 27, was arrested on Thursday night from Sitarampur village in Kashiani upazila. He is the president of the Puishur Union Chhatra League and a resident of Sitarampur village.
Kashiani Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Shafiuddin Khan confirmed the detention on Friday morning, adding that an incident took place in Gopinathpur area of Gopalganj Sadar upazila, where an army vehicle was vandalized, set on fire, and army personnel were assaulted, and their weapons were looted.
A case regarding the incident was filed at Gopalganj Sadar Police Station on August 22. Nirab Shikdar has been arrested in connection with that case.
Later, the accused has been sent to jail through a court, and the OC added that efforts to arrest the other suspects are ongoing.
