Seven found dead in five districts

Seven people including a woman and a minor girl have been found dead in separate incidents in five districts - Narsingdi, Narayanganj, Kishoreganj, Brahmanbaria and Pabna, in four days.

SREENAGAR, MUNSHIGANJ: Police recovered the floating body of a local leader of Awami League (AL), who had been missing since Thursday afternoon, from a pond in Sreenagar Upazila of the district on Friday morning. 

The body was recovered at around 11 am under Birtara Union in the upazila. 

The deceased was identified as Shahjan Sheikh, 55, a resident of the area. He was the publicity secretary of Birtara Union Unit of the AL.

Quoting locals and the deceased's family members, police said that Shahjan Seikh went out of his house on Thursday afternoon but did not return. The family members searched him various places but could not locate him anywhere.

Later on, locals spotted his body floating in a pond near his house in the area on Friday morning and informed the matter to police. 

On information, police recovered the body from the scene and handed it over to the deceased's family members upon their request.

No injury marks were found on the body of the AL leader.

Police assumed that he might have drowned in the pond.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreenagar Police Station (PS) Yasin Munshi confirmed the incident. 

NARAYANGANJ: Three people including a woman and a minor child were found dead in separate incidents in the district in two days.

Naval Police recovered the half-decomposed body of a man from the Dhaleshwari River at Fatullah in the city on Thursday.
The identity of the deceased, aged above 50, could not be known immediately.

It was known that locals spotted the body of the man floating in the Dhaleshwari River in Boktabali area of Fatullah on Thursday and informed the matter to police. 

Being informed, River Police recovered the body from the river and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Police assumed that the man might have died about 10 to 15 days back. 

Boktabali Naval Police Outpost In-Charge Md Shahjalal confirmed the incident, saying that the actual reason behind his death would be known after getting the autopsy report.

However, the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to identify the deceased, the official added.

Earlier, police recovered the body of a woman from a ditch in Bandar Upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon.

The identity of the deceased, aged about 55, could not be known immediately.

Police sources said that locals spotted the body of the woman floating in a ditch beside the Madanganj-Madanpur road in Farazikanda area of the upazila at noon and informed the matter to police.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene at around 5 pm and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Bandar PS OC Tariqul Islam confirmed the incident, saying that the actual reason behind her death would be known after getting the autopsy report.

The law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to identify the deceased.

However, an unnatural death case was filed with Bandar PS in this connection, the OC added.

On the other hand, police recovered the hanging body of a minor girl from her residence in Bandar Upazila early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Humaira Jannat Raisa, 9, daughter of expatriate Md Ali Mia of Sakhati area in Sunamganj District. She used to live along with maternal grandparents in a rented house owned by one Abdul Mannaf Mia in Dhamgarh area under Bandar Upazila of Narayanganj.

It was known that the body of Humaira Jannat Raisa was found hanging with a scarf from the grill of a veranda in the rented house at around 3 am on Wednesday.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Dhamgarh Police Outpost Md Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter.

KARIMGANJ, KISHOREGANJ: Police recovered the body of an auto-rickshaw driver from an orchard in Karimganj Upazila of the district on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Humayun, 20, son of Usman Mia, a resident of East Charkaranshi Village under Gujadia Union in the upazila.

Police and local sources said that Humayun was heading towards Junglebari in Karimganj Upazila from Puran Thana area in Kishoreganj District Town on Wednesday with an unidentified passenger on his auto-rickshaw. On the way, Humayun called his cousin brother Shamim and asked him to stay near Dewanganj Bazar. 

As the passenger could not agree, Humayun then did not pick up Shamim in his auto-rickshaw. But Humayun had been missing since then. 

Later on, locals spotted his body with hands and feet tied up lying in an orchard in Srirampur Village of the upazila at around 6:30 am on Thursday and informed the matter to police.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to a local hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The body bore several injury marks. 

Police assumed that someone might have killed him before snatching his auto-rickshaw as the vehicle could not be found anywhere.

Karimganj PS OC Mohammad Shahab Uddin confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to identify and arrest those involved in the killing.

BRAHMANBARIA: Police recovered the dismembered body parts of an elderly man from a septic tank and arrested his wife and daughter in this connection on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Arun Mia, 70, a resident of Fardabad Village under Bancharampur Upazila in the district.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) (Admin) in Brahmanbaria Md Iqbal Hossain at a press conference held at Brahmanbaria SP office on Wednesday said that police recovered the dismembered body parts from a septic tank in Fordabad Village of the upazila at around 10 pm on Tuesday.

Police arrested the deceased's second wife Momena Begum, 50, and daughter, Lucky Akter, 27, in connection with the murder on Wednesday.

The ASP said Arun went missing on September 27. A general diary was filed over his missing with the Bancharampur Model PS on September 30.

On Tuesday night, locals found the body parts as a foul odour coming out from the septic tank. Later on, police recovered dismembered body parts of Arun from there.

Quoting locals, the ASP said that Arun Mia married Momena Begum after his first wife passed away 35 years back. They had two sons and a daughter.

Arun has also a son, named Lutfur Rahman Rubel, from his previous marriage.

According to locals, the couple had been experiencing marital problems for years. For that reason, Arun Mia moved to Gazipur to live with his elder son Rubel in 2017. Few months back, he moved back to his village home to live with Momena.

Police said Arun Mia and Momena Begum locked into an argument over family issues and at one stage Arun was hacked to death with a sharp weapon. Later on, Momena, along with her daughter Lucky, dismembered his body into 9 pieces and disposed of those in a nearby septic tank wrapped in polythene bags.

Rubel has filed a murder case against Momena and Lucky with the PS on Wednesday in this regard.

SANTHIA, PABNA: Police recovered the body of an auto-bike driver from a pond in Ataikula PS area under Santhia Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
 
The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam, 45, son of Raihan Islam, a resident of Monoharpur Village under Sadar Upazila in the district.

The deceased's son Hasibul Haque said that his father went out of the house along with his battery-run auto-bike in the evening of September 29 last, but did not return home. The family members then lodged a general diary with Pabna Sadar PS the next day.

Later on, local people spotted the body of Rabiul Islam floating in a pond owned by one Kazi Shahin beside the Dhaka-Pabna highway in Tailkupi Village under Ataikula Union in Santhia Upazila in the morning and informed the matter to police.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Pabna Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Police assumed that miscreants might have killed Rabiul before snatching his auto-bike. 

Ataikula PS OC AKM Habibul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter.
