A man reportedly fled abroad after killing his wife at Anwara upazila in Chattogram district.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, an unidentified woman's body was recovered from an abandoned brick kiln near China Economic Zone office at Bairag in the upazila.
Later, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) identified the deceased as Amena Begum, 23, through fingerprint analysis.

According to the police, preliminary investigations suggest that the woman was murdered, and her husband was involved. Two days after the incident, the husband, Yasin Arafat, left the country.

Amena's father, Kamal Uddin, said, "Her husband took her to Anwara, saying they were going on an outing. He killed her there and fled abroad, leaving her body behind. It was her husband who killed my daughter."

The police stated that after completing the autopsy, Amena's body was handed over to her family. This was Amena's second marriage; she had two children from her previous marriage. She had married Yasin Arafat, an expatriate, and they had one child together.

However, Yasin's family did not accept Amena, so she was kept in a house at Bakalia Takhtarpul in the city.

Citing family members, Anwara Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Monir Hossain said that Yasin was an expatriate in Dubai. He had returned to the country a few days ago. Without Amena's knowledge, he married another woman, and Amena eventually found out, leading to disputes between them.

The OC also said that the police have initially confirmed that last Tuesday, Yasin took Amena to Anwara under the pretext of an invitation, where he killed her. Two days later, on Thursday, he left for Dubai again.

A case has been filed in connection with the incident. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest others involved in the incident, added the OC.
