No dengue death on Friday, least cases in last 14 days

The country reported no dengue-related deaths in the past 24 hours till Friday morning, marking the first time in 22 days that there were no fatalities. 

The last time, no dengue death was recorded on September 13.

A total of 34,438 people were affected by the mosquito-borne disease this year, with 177 reported deaths.

However, a significant decrease in dengue cases was observed on Friday, with only 317 new cases-the lowest number recorded in the past 14 days.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 395 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals across the country. 

On September 20, the country recorded 299 dengue cases.

Between September 21 and October 3, daily dengue cases exceeded 1,000 for five days, surpassed 800 for seven days, and fell below 500 on one occasion.

On Friday, out of the 321 dengue patients reported nationwide, 114 were from the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 50 from Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and the remaining cases were distributed across various regions: 38 in Chattogram, 23 in Khulna, 19 in Mymensingh, 10 in Rangpur, seven in Rajshahi, five in Barishal, and one in Sylhet.

Notably, 51.4 per cent of the deceased were female while 63.1 per cent of the total dengue patients were male.

Since January 1, Dhaka has recorded the highest number of dengue cases, with 19,512 patients admitted to hospitals-accounting for 56.65 percent of all reported cases.
