National Citizens Committee (NCC), Jatiya Nagorik Committee, Convener Nasiruddin Patwari at a rally held in front of the National Museum in the capital on Saturday called for annulment of the Constitution and completely rewriting it.
Nasir said, "Despite the fall of fascist regime, some issues remain unresolved. It is unfortunate that even the parties that participated in the movement are busy organising themselves. We must focus on those unresolved issues. The Constitution made by the Awami League government should be annulled and rewritten."
At the rally, participants demanded justice for the July killings, rehabilitation of the martyrs and medical treatment of the injured, improvements in law and order, and control of commodity prices.
The NCC announced formation of a seven-member legal panel to pursue justice across the country and manage legal proceedings against the perpetrators.
Speakers included NCC Member Secretary Akhter Hossain, Members Mashiur Rahman and Ashraf Mahadi and relatives of the martyrs of the July Uprising.
Nasiruddin Patwari said, "Through the July Revolution, which was a second liberation war, the country saw the fall of fascism. In response to the call of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, people from all walks of life took to the streets. Thousands sacrificed their lives.
However, two months after the July Revolution, no significant action has been taken to rehabilitate the martyrs' families. The injured are moving door to door to get medical care but all in vain. We must urgently ensure proper rehabilitation of the families of the martyrs and medical treatment for the injured."
Stressing the need to control commodity prices, Nasir added, "The interim government has been formed over the blood of hundreds of martyrs. In the current scenario, a revolutionary government should have played a more proactive role, yet the interim government has failed to do so, leading to an abnormal rise in prices. We must dismantle the corrupt syndicates which were active during the Awami regime."
Saiful Islam, father of martyr Mominul Islam, said, "My son was martyred on July 19. He was my only child. When students took to the streets during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, he did not stay at home. Ignoring my requests, he joined the movement. Today, I have no one to call my son. I lost him in the fight to remove this fascist regime. I want to see those responsible for my son's death brought to justice. The interim government must ensure that a father receives justice for his son's murder."
