At least three people were killed and five others injured in a gas cylinder blast at a hotel in Keraniganj on Saturday (October 5) evening.
The blast happened around 7:30pm at Rohitpur Boarding Market at Rohitpur union in Keraniganj, witnesses said.
Quoting locals, Keraniganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) said a gas cylinder had exploded with a huge sound at Gharoa Restaurant in the market. The cylinder kept in front of a kebab shop was suddenly exploded when a Nababganj-bound speeding covered van rammed it. Within moments, the fire had spread and engulfed the adjacent Gharoa Restaurant, leaving three people dead and five others injured who were trapped inside the Gharoa Restaurant.
Keraniganj Upazila Fire Station master Md Kajol Mia said four bodies have so far been retrieved who were killed in fire at Gharoa Restaurant in Rohitpur Boarding Market. Fire had also spread to several nearby shops.
All the deceased were inside the hotel. The identities of the deceased were yet to be identified till filing this report on Saturday night.
Two firefighting units doused the blaze around 8:50pm.
