As many as 105 children were killed during the student-led mass uprising in July and August, said Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin S Murshid.

Each of the martyred families will be given Tk 50,000 as compensation, the Adviser announced at a press conference held on Sunday (October 6) at the secretariat.
The compensation will be given away on World Children's Day, Monday (October 7), with families of the deceased children—those up to 18 years of age—receiving both the monetary grant and a certificate.

The ceremony will be held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

Besides, Sharmin mentioned that Tk 82.7 lakh has been provided to students injured in the anti-discrimination movement through the Social Service Office and the Upazila Patient Welfare Association.

The ministry is also in the process of securing $5 million from the World Bank to fund rehabilitation and treatment for those injured in the uprising.

The Adviser further noted that the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs operates 12 daycare centers and is pushing for the establishment of daycare facilities in all government institutions by June 2026.

The government is also examining the possibilities of introducing private sector daycares to create more employment opportunities and provide essential services.
