Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday said it was not involved in using bullets to suppress anti-discrimination student-people movement rather the force was with the movement of the students.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Lt Col Munim Ferdous said this at a press conference at the elite forces media centre at Karwan Bazar on Sunday.
"RAB never used lethal weapons on the students-people during the anti-discrimination movement," Munim told journalists, adding that the RAB force are now working to make the revolution successful.
He said more than 90 police officers are accused but there was no RAB personnel and even no RAB member has escaped or went on strike for any reason.
Noting that RAB members come from eight forces while about 44 per cent of its 10,000 members are from the police force, the media director said, "There was no problem with RAB . . . RAB never used live ammunitions on students."
When asked about the role of RAB in arresting those involved in the massacre during the anti-discrimination movement, Munim Ferdous said since the anti-discrimination movement on August 5, the RAB has so far arrested 1,700 people, including 39 high-ranking people of the erstwhile government.
He said along with this, 15 people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of students and people taking help of the video footages spread on social media.
Responding to another query of journalists, he said, "Our work is on . . . to detain Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak and former chief of the Detective Branch (DB) Md Harun-Or-Rashid."
RAB official assured the people of staying always beside the common man. He also called upon the citizens, if they have any information about criminals or any illegal arms and ammunitions nearby, to inform the members of RAB force.
