CHITTAGONG, Dec 30: Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin on Friday said here that compared to any other professionals journalists have been playing a unique role in development of the country.
He urged the journalists to work with objectivity and accuracy for building a peaceful society and not to publish any news item that goes against the interests of the nation.
AJM Nasir Uddin said this while inaugurating the annual general meeting of Chittagong Press Club (CPC) this noon.
The mayor said the media can reduce any conflicts in the country through presenting accurate information, ideas and comments. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest Commodore AW Chowdhury said journalism has more responsibilities in this regard and journalists should work sincerely to uphold their professional dignity. Terming the CPC as a seat of all progressive movements, he urged all to uphold its reputation.
With CPC President Kalim Sarwar in the chair CPC Joint General Secretary Chowdhury Farid conducted the meeting.
The function was addressed, among others, by vice president of Federal Union of Journalists Shahidul Alam, Chittagong Union of Journalists President Reaz Haider Chowdhury and CPC General Secretary Mohsin Chowdhury. The two-day biennial conference and election of Chittagong Press Club (CPC)-2016 began today. The election will be held at CPC Conference room tomorrow. �BSS
