Employers to pay levy of foreign workers from Jan 1: KL

Employers to pay levy of foreign workers from Jan 1: KL

Employers will be responsible to pay the levy of foreign workers beginning Sunday, said the Home Ministry.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that employers would no longer be able to deduct the wages of their foreign workers for the levy.

This new ruling comes under an Employer Mandatory Commitment (EMC), aimed to ensure that employers are fully responsible for their foreign workers.

Dr Ahmad Zahid who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said the commitment would be in effect from the application stage right up until the foreign worker is sent back to their country of origin.
“The Government will also introduce the undertaking letter which will underline the responsibilities and requirements to be fulfilled by employers in the near future,” Dr Ahmad Zahid said in a statement on Saturday.
