Appreciation of people or own satisfaction
As a poet, self-satisfaction is mandatory. Poets write for themselves, of themselves, though sometimes they dedicate their words to others. As a song writer, some time it is more important to consider the taste of audiences along with self-satisfaction. But at the end of the day, it does not matter what form of writing you pursue as a writer if it is loved by reader, you are honored as a writer.
Retirement from govt job is like
In our country government job is always lucrative and I was amazed by it, but, after a certain time, I felt tired of everyday's mechanical routine work. I had very little time for my family, passion and leisure. To live my life, I worked, and to enjoy my life, I pursue literature as it is my passion. Now, I am more into passion.
Inspiration in writing
I like to read two or three books all together. It gives me a way to compare the writing and also the diversity of those pieces of works. It helps me to learn something new every day and inspires to pen afresh.
Books you re-read
I have no boundaries in reading books. I embrace the entire genres not to pursue all but to learn from all. From Tagor to Shakespeare, my list contains everyone I come across. In contemporary times, I like to read Haruki Murakami --- his different layers of one character is dynamic.
Worth mentioning is, nowadays, that I am reading some autobiographical and biographical novels. Struggles of authors' life teach me a lot of dimensions of human life and emotions. It also helps to know about the socio-political condition of that contemporary writer's time.
Your songs or poetry
When I was a student of university I started writing songs. I have written songs for Bangladeshi movies like 'Moushumi', 'Ek Polok', 'Aanjuman', 'Bajigar', 'Sneher Badhon', 'Lat Shaheb', Channel i's theme song and many more. But after 1996, I did not write any song.
Songs are poetry to me. Songs have literary values, as we all know Bob Dylan got Nobel Prize in literature. All our ancient literary pieces --- 'Charyapada', 'Vaishnava Padavali', etc. are songs representing time and culture.
I do not differentiate poetry and songs. These two are synonymous to me.
Words on literature crossing the border
We are crossing borders of language and culture, making our culture a hybrid one. Traditional forms are breaking the barriers and I welcome that. Practicing structure and traditional forms bring nothing new. Pursuing new method helps us to think anew and give birth of 'unconventional'.
Conventional or unconventional
One cannot justify any work of art by the structure of tradition. There is no creativity if I follow the established structures of writing as in we know Jibanananda Das and Rabindranath Tagore for their uniqueness.
Literature is a self sufficient subject as it is connected to every other subject --- Anthropology, Science, Commerce, Media and all.
Bangladesh in publication business
Every years Bangladesh is publishing huge quantity of books. Number of writers is increasing positively. Now it is becoming an industry. But we need to increase reading habit. Though it is a time of visual, to bring progress in writing skill reading is mandatory. Another thing is that our government has to take steps to nurture this uprising industry.
Words on works of translation
To get world-wide recognition of our enriched literature, there is no second option over translation. Bangladeshi publishing industry is driving towards this recently. Again, for our new generation, many of English Medium Schools' students are weak in ornamental Bangla Language. We need fine translation versions of our literary works.
Words for young generation
Reading habit is must thing to develop understanding and perceiving the fact of surroundings. And, if do hard work to chase your passion, success will be on your foot.
