Anuk Arudpragasam wins the DSC Prize 2017

Anuk Arudpragasam has been announced as the winner of the prestigious DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2017, for his novel, The Story of a Brief Marriage on 18 November, the final day of the Dhaka Lit Fest.
The novel is narrated in a powerful prose and meditative stream of consciousness. The DSC Jury hailed Anuk for his fresh voice and representing the repercussions of Sri Lankan civil war in a nuanced tone. In a houseful award ceremony, the US USD 25,000 DSC Prize was conferred to the winner along with a unique trophy by Hon'ble Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Minister of Finance of Bangladesh. Publishers, writers, literature lovers -- the world's literati applauded the winner of the DSC Prize at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium at the Bangla Academy.
The five shortlisted authors and novels in contention for the DSC Prize this year were Anjali Joseph: The Living; Anuk Arudpragasam: The Story of a Brief Marriage; Aravind Adiga: Selection Day; Karan Mahajan: The Association of Small Bombs; and Stephen Alter: In the Jungles of the Night.
