Children suffer from cold-related diseases in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, Dec 15: Different cold-related diseases are affecting the local people, particularly the children, as the intensity of cold has increased here in the last couple of days.
Now the people and their children are coming to local government and private hospitals with different diseases including cough, diarrhoea and pneumonia every day.
Jharna Khatun of Tamai Village under Belkuchi Upazila said, "I admitted my six-month old daughter Jui to the 250-Bed Sirajganj General Hospital as she had been suffering from cold for the last two days. Now she has improved slightly."
Rita Khatun of Kalia Horipur Union in Sadar Upazila said she admitted her two-month old daughter to the hospital with breathing problem.
Resident Medical Officer of 250-Bed General Hospital Dr Mohammad Akramuzzaman said, "The cold wave is giving rise to the cold-related diseases. Around 300 to 400 child patients are taking treatment at the hospital's outdoor section and 70 are getting admitted every day."
Paediatric Consultant at the hospital Dr. Aminul Islam said the number of the paediatric patients is increasing here for the last couple of days.
He advised the people to take special care of the children and their breast-feeding mothers and cautioned them in taking food to stay away from the diseases.
He also said the upazila health complexes are equipped with all medical facilities; so the guardians should admit their children if they get affected with any cold-related diseases.
Dr. Mohammad Khalid Hossain of Shahzadpur Paediatric Hospital said, "The intensity of cold has increased with the seasonal change. So, the local children have been affected with pneumonia, diarrhoea and cold related diseases. Now, the hospital is facing sudden pressure of the patients as there are not adequate seats. As a result, the patients have taken position on the hospital's veranda."
