Cold-hit child patients on the rise in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, Dec 20: As cold has gripped the district in the last few days, hundreds of children are getting infected with different diseases including diarrhoea and pneumonia.
As a result, patients in a great number are coming to different government and private hospitals for treatment daily.
Jharna Khatun of Tamai Village under Belkuchi Upazila of the district has admitted her six-month old daughter Jui to Sirajganj 250-Bed General Hospital. She said, "After my daughter got infected with cold two days back, I admitted her to the hospital. She has improved now."
Rita Khatun of Kalia Horipur Union in Sadar Upazila said, "I admitted my two-month old daughter Sawda with breathing problems. Now, she is better."
Resident Medical Officer of 250-Bed General Hospital Dr Md Akramuzzaman said, "Due to increase in cold, the number of patients with different diseases has increased. Of the patients, the number of children is more. Around 300 to 400 children are taking treatment from the outdoor section of the hospital and around 70 are getting admitted here daily."
Child specialist at the hospital Junior Consultant Dr Aminul Islam said, "As the intensity of cold has increased in the last few days, the number of child patients has increased. Hundreds of child patients are taking treatment from the hospital daily. The lactating mothers should be careful while taking food at this time."
He further said, "The upazila health complexes are equipped with all facilities for treatment. So, I advise the guardians to bring their affected children to the health complexes as soon as possible."
Physician of Shahzadpur Child Hospital Dr Md Khalid Hossen said, "The intensity of cold has increased due to seasonal change. As a result, the number of children affected with cold-related diseases has increased, and the hospital is facing pressure of mounting child patients. Due to seat scarcity, many patients are getting treatment staying on the floor at the hospital. Around 500 patients have come to the hospital to take treatment in the last four days."
