4 neonates die at RMCH

The number of patients suffering from cold-related diseases is increasing day by day in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) since the last week.

"Most of the patients are children," said the hospital authorities. "Four children died due to cold-related diseases on Saturday," confirmed the sources of Emergency and Outdoor department of RMCH.

Assistant Professor Dr Sanaul Haque, Head of the department of Pediatrics, said, “The 4 neonates, who were suffering from pneumonia, died while undergoing treatment.”

The deceased are, 4-day old baby girl of Abu Hanif, resident of Puthia, 2.5-month old boy Piyash, son of Shimul Islam from Pabna, 3-day old baby girl of Shahzahan from Natore, and two-day neonate of Sushil Pramanik from Naogaon.

Dr. M.A. Jalil, in-charge of RMCH Emergency department, and Dr. Nurul Islam, In-charge of the outdoor department, said, “Nearly 271 children got admitted to the hospital since January 3. Most of them are suffering from diseases caused by cold weather in Rajshahi.’

Moreover, 667 children also went for medication at the outdoor department of RMCH, they added.

Jinia Begum, a resident of Chuadanga and mother of  a patient admitted at ward-10, said she has been staying at the hospital since last week as his son Jisan, aged 2 months and 10 days, is suffering from Pneumonia.

Jisan is now better, added the mother.
