A student of Crop Science and Technology department of Rajshahi University alleged to be ragged inhumanly by some seniors of the department.

The victim is identified as Fahad Bin Ismail, a first-year student of CST department under 2017-18 session and a resident of Narayanganj.

“I wore a formal suit at the orientation class which seemed irked senior students of my department. That day they threatened me of ragging.” said the victim.

The next day, they forced him to be shaven-headed, he said adding that they also compelled him to put off his clothes forcefully and tortured.

When asked either he informed the teachers of the department about this, the victim said the second-year seniors threatened me not to come to the department.

“Yet I went to my class and they ragged me confining at the Agriculture faculty since 12 pm to 4 pm on Thursday.”

They kept him hungry the whole day, forced to put off clothes, used abusive language against his parents, inhumanly tortured and then released him around 7pm, he alleged.

“My mother became faint hearing the incidents and got admitted at Popular Hospital at Dhanmondi,” said the student.

Then my father forbade me to study in such an environment and return home.

On the other hand, Al-Amin, the third-year student refused the accusation saying, there was some misunderstanding between Fahad and the second year students. I have just heard about the matter from them.

Accused second-year students claimed they didn’t rag the first-year student.

Instead Ismail passed a bad comment about a senior female student of the department on the facebook group, they learned from Ismail’s classmate.

He was only rebuked simply so that he never posts such comment again, they claimed.

Saiful Islam, Chairman of Crop Science and Technology Department said he was not concerned about the incident. If the incident proved to be true, the accused students will get punishment for that.

Prof. Lutfor Rahman, RU proctor said, I will consult with the dept chairman to take steps to punish those who were involved in ragging. Otherwise, the administration will take stern step against them, he added.
