RU students protest against ragging

Rajshahi University Students’ Rights Association (RUSRA) on Sunday formed a human chain in front of the university’s central lipary protesting at the harassment of fresher students physically and mentally in the name of ragging.

Addressing the human chain, KAM Shakib, convener of the association, said that not only the masters’ students, but also the fresher students have the same right on the campus. But they remain panicked in fear of ragging. We should behave well with fresher students, otherwise, they won’t respect the seniors, he added.

Professor Shahin Zohura, adviser and also administrator of the association, said, “We have to behave well with them so that they remain safe physically and mentally. We should be aware of ragging and the university authorities should take proper steps to stop ragging.”

Among others, Fazle Rakib Kamal, member of association, Mazharul Islam Rocky of Bangla dept, Rokonuzzaman of Law dept and Manju Sikdar addressed while Jabedul Islam Monir of Economics dept conducted the programmee.

Mentionable, a student of Crop Science and Technology dept alleged of being ragged inhumanly by some seniors of the department on Saturday.
