Leaders hand over five BCL activists to police

Five Bangladesh Chhatra League activists of Rajshahi University unit were handed over to police on Monday for creating law and order situation on the campus.

BCL RU unit president Golam Kibria and general secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu handed over them to police after holding a meeting at Shaheed Habibur Rahman hall of the university at around 1:30pm.

The five activists were identified as Sakib, Nitay, Shahadat, Faisal and Sourov.

Sources said a scuffle ensued between BCL activists Nitay, Shahadat and BCL RU unit human resources affairs secretary Ferdous Mahmud Srabon on Sunday night centering attending a cultural function at the university auditorium organized by University Carrier Club.

Following the matter, a group of BCL men attacked Shakil and some of his aides at the university golden jubilee area on Monday noon.

The tense situation created on campus as the both group of activists took positions on campus for taking revenge. Later, the BCL president and general secretary handed over the five activists to Motihar Police.

BCL RU unit president Golam Kibria told the Daily Observer that they handed over the five activists for violating party regulations, adding that none would be spared if they want to make the campus unstable.

Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station said that the BCL leaders handed over five of their fellows for bringing the campus situation under control. The BCL men might be released after a while, he added.
