
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) is making a list of illegal drug dealers of different area under Rajshahi city for taking stern action against the listed peoples.
RMP commissioner Mahbubur Rahman said this as the chief guest of a 'Rally against Drug and Militancy' held at Shah Mokhdum College premises on Sunday evening.
He also said, 'Every month we are filing over 200 drug related cases, however, the matter of sorrow is that the arrested people got out from jail after a few days. So we are thinking to rehabilitate them who want to come out from the quicksand of drug business.'
'Now the drug businessmen are not doing only dealing in drugs but also dealing with fire arms which is degenerating the young generation and destroying families who are related with those business. Just for saving the nation as well as keeping security, we would use our legal weapon against them, if needed,” the police commissioner added.
After the rally the police commissioner joined in a discussion programme with journalists over the drug and militancy problem. He said, "As a guardian, I'm worried about my children's future. I do not know when or how they could be attracted by drugs. So both of us, police and general people, should take position against drugs and militancy."
Earlier on, Dablu Sarker, general secretary of Rajshahi city unit Awami League, said as special guest, "If anyone tries to sell a single piece of Yaba tablet naming Awami League, you should hand him over to the police without any hesitation. Awami League is against both drugs and militancy." He also urged to be careful against this.
Among others, RMP additional police commissioner Sujayet Islam, DC (sadar) Tanveer Haidar Chowdhury, Fridom Fighter Mir Iqbal, Rajshahi College Principal Prof Habibur Rahman addressed as special guests while deputy police commissioner of Boalia Division Ameer Jafor presided over the programme.
