Raju Day observed

Leaders and activists of different student organisations and socio-cultural organisations on Tuesday paid rich tributes to Moin Hossain Raju, leader of Chhatra Union who was gunned down by terrorists while participating in an anti-terrorism procession on this day in 1992.
Earlier in the morning, they placed floral wreaths at the Raju's sculpture near the TSC intersection of Dhaka University.
Bangladesh Chhatra Union brought out a procession to mark the day demanding student polls in all the educational institutions across the country to bring the end of the autocracy of ruling party's student organisation and to ensure democratic environment.
They also urged the university authority to declare the day as 'anti-terrorism day'.
On this day in 1992, Moin Hossain Raju was killed while leading an anti-terrorism procession on the Dhaka University campus.
The procession was brought out instantly after a gunfight between the armed cadres of the JCD and the BCL.
Raju was a member of the central committee of Bangladesh Students Union also student of the Soil Science Department of Dhaka University.
Later, Dhaka University authorities in collaboration with Raju Sangsad and Chhatra Union erected a huge sculpture named 'Raju memorial sculpture' on the TSC square of the university in 1997 in his memory.
