All people of Bangladesh will get electricity by 2021 as per government plan to produce around 24,000 MW of electricity by 2021, Power Division said.
"We are set to ensure all Upazilas of the country by December 2018, however, Rural Electrification Board (REB) will connect over 100 upazilas under cent percent power coverage through a function, expected to be attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," a senior official of the Power Division said.
Along with its traditional generation plan Bangladesh is now importing 600MW power from India, install nuclear power project and establish three energy hubs in the country to feed the electricity run industries and appliances' across the country.
It also achieved the fastest growth rate of installing solar home systems in the world, at a rate of 70,000 systems every month. Over 3 million systems have already been installed with support from development partners in remote areas and costal belt.

scenario," official added.
"Now the electricity generation reached a record mark with 9,036 MW and power generation capacity has already reached to 14,539 MW, which bringing 76 per cent of the population under the electricity coverage," Power Cell Director General Mohammad Hossain said.
The government is now in a position to reach its desired target of generating 24,000 MW by 2021, he added.
"The government is determined to supply electricity to every household and bring all the people under power coverage by 2021 at a reasonable price," a Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry official said.

In 2009, when Awami League took office, the country's power generation capacity was 4,942MW. The additional capacity has been added in annual increases of 365MW, 775MW, 1763MW, 951MW, 1163MW, 583MW and 1,997 MW respectively in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 to May 2016, the official said.
