The Hindu monuments (moth) of Rajshahi city are being renovated by Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) under the funding of Indian Government.
The monuments were in decrepit condition, while five of those are getting their previous look. Reconstruction of two monuments has already been completed.
RCC chief engineer Ashraful Haque said, “21 crore 22 lakh taka has been provided to reform the Rajshahi General Library and five moths (monuments). Of them, 13 lakh taka is being spent for each monument. A contractor is doing the job. Two monasteries have already been revamped. The remaining three will be reformed in a month.”
RCC sources said there are 8-10 monuments in different places of the city. Among these five are being reformed. RCC is thinking of reconstructing the rests by RCC's own fund. If all the monasteries get back previous look, then RCC will be able to pull more tourists.
Mahbub Siddiqui, founder president of Heritage Rajshahi, said that if all the monuments are reformed, the beauty of the entire city will be increased. There have been illegal houses around many monuments. They also need to be evicted. Then tourists can enjoy the beauty of the monasteries well.
RCC Mayor Mohammad Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul said 5 monuments are being reformed. The rest will also be done in phases. If there are illegal structures around the monuments, then these will be evicted.
