Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand, the member countries of BIMSTEC, are set to kick off the second meeting of the National Security Chiefs in Dhaka on March 28.
The meeting will discuss the traditional and non-traditional security threats and measures necessary to deal with the threats in a collective manner.
"We are ready to host the meeting here to discuss common issues of both the traditional and non-traditional security threats, said a senior official of the Foreign Ministry.
The Bay of Bengal will come into focus as the first meeting underscored the importance of recognizing the Bay of Bengal as a common security space and agreed to work out collective strategies for common responses, he told the Daily Observer.
The first meeting of the National Security Chiefs of BIMSTEC Member States was held in New Delhi on March 21, 2017.
Official and non-official delegates from each of the  Member States will take part in dialogues here, the official said.
Given that terrorism continues to remain the single most significant threat to peace and stability in the Bay of Bengal region, the first meeting recognised the need for urgent measures to counter and prevent the spread of terrorism, violent extremism and radicalization.
It also decided to take concrete measures to enhance cooperation and coordination among law enforcement agencies, intelligence and security organisations and enhance capacity building.
"A Joint Forum on cyber security could be formed among the BIMSTEC member countries to deepen cooperation among the respective cyber institutions," another official said.
The meeting will also review the progress made in BIMSTEC Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes and its Sub-Groups.
It will also review the progress of the inter-linkages between the Himalayan and the Bay of Bengal ecological systems, he added.
