Prof Sultan Ahmad, a teacher of Islamic History and Culture Department at Rajshahi University, died of cardiac arrest in the classroom on Thursday.
Prof Sultan felt chest pain while taking class of first year's students at 9am.
He was first taken to the RU medical centre and then shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he died at about 10:35am.
Chairman of Islamic History and Culture Dept Professor Azizul Haque confirmed the matter.
Professor Sultan was also the Director of the Brind Research Museum of Rajshahi.
He is scheduled to chair the inauguration programme of the museum's extension building on May 2.
Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsha Vardhan Sringla is also scheduled toattend the programme as chief guest.
